OUTPOST is an artist run gallery based in Norwich. It was founded in November 2004 with financial support form Arts Council England East, Norfolk County Council, Norwich City Council and Norwich Gallery. OUTPOST is committed - in a region with few such venues - to the uncompromising presentation of contemporary art, resulting in a core programme of 12 exhibitions per year - selected from the membership archive and a wider remit - each exhibition opening on the 1st of each month. A programme of events is also run that includes film nights, critical forums, group exhibitions and artists' talks. Its operating systems limit committee members to two years service to ensure that selection and organisational processes are prevented from becoming stale.

OUTPOST runs an artist membership scheme. The annual fee of £15 parallels the expenses provided to invigilators, meaning that each member's subscription effectively keeps the gallery open for one day. A days invigilation can be provided in lieu of payment. Artist members may also submit material to the members' archive; a source from which exhibitions can be selected and independent curators can gain a greater knowledge of members' works. The archive is physically housed at OUTPOST and an index of material will be placed online. The artist membership functions as a mutually supporting network. Long distance members are welcomed, as one of the founding aims of OUTPOST is to present work of national relevance. A patron membership scheme is also run at a cost of £30 per year allowing a 10% discount on any works purchased. Membership support for OUTPOST is invaluable, extending beyond the financial and ensuring that a credible context for contemporary art in Norwich is recognised and sustained.
