Aims

OUTPOST invites applications for a public education event to be held at OUTPOST Gallery for Black History Month as part of the gallery’s programme. The event will be to engage the local community with Black History Month. This opportunity is designed to improve the support and resources available to artists and provide an opportunity for them to gain a better knowledge and foster a strengthening of community through action and conversation. We are happy for this to take the form of a range of activities (including but not limited to: poetry, readings, music events, lectures, workshops, arts activities, performances). We are particularly interest in hearing from black and mixed heritage applicants.

We are able to provide:

  • a fee of £275

  • and a £100 budget for accommodation and travel

as well as technical, logistical, and promotional assistance from the OUTPOST Steering Committee.

  • Proposed Event Date: Saturday 14th October

We are happy to receive applications that pitch events that may take between 1 hour and 3 hours of activity. The event/talk/workshop will be for a maxiumum of 30 members of the public, though we are happy to discuss capacity and can be flexible with this number.

OUTPOST is committed to offering flexible opportunities to those with commitments to work and/or family. With this in mind we will consider proposals of alternative structures dependent on subsequent programming at the time. We welcome applications from groups and collectives.

Applicants can work in any medium or field (art, writing, academia, self taught) and no previous facilitating experience is necessary. Support and feedback from the steering committee will be available throughout. We recommend using https://hemingwayapp.com/ for assistance with application writing.

The Space

We are able to offer the use of the space at OUTPOST Gallery, 10b Wensum Street, Norwich, Norfolk. A floorplan of the building has been included at the bottom of this page. You can view the space in person when we are open to the public during exhibitions from Thursday to Sunday, 12-6pm or by appointment. You can view images of the space through our programme page on our website which demonstrates the range of activities we can host. You can also view images submitted to google maps, we think this image gives a good sense of the space. There will be no exhibition on during this event, so you are welcome to make use of the gallery walls and floorspace.
