#173 Monika Plays Herself

19-27 Jul 2025 Thu-Sun 12 - 6 pm or by appointment

I present to you two drawings, a lightbox, a video essay and a film. I like to think of all my output — be it experimental videos, fiction films, drawings, writing, even dancing — as part of the same universe of ideas, inseparable from the life I live. This show is no exception; it follows two characters, Monika and I, as we grow and go through life. We are friends in life and in fiction. One influences the other, expanding both.

The films presented in the exhibition have a story. They play on the hour and at half past the hour. I suggest you watch them at these times.

The book selection for this exhibition focuses on coming of age narratives, in which young women discover themselves and the world around them, often finding a need to make sense of experience through the making of things. These authors are very important to me.

I thank Rae Jones, Tim Hattrick and the rest of the Outpost team for bringing this exhibition into being. The show was curated with the help of Ulijona Odišarija and Benjamin Arthur Brown. I thank them and all my friends, who inspire me in art as in life.
