The title of the work is a quote from a book found at Norwich library, 'The Rag Trade: The People Who Made Our Clothes’ (lnder, 2017). It refers to the regular practice of dressmakers in the early 19th century working overnight to fulfil their clients' expectations of "speedy service”.

During the residency, an accumulation of ephemera related to clothing and textile construction and production is combined with critical fashion theory and treated as source material for new work. Time, space and consideration are given to objects normally associated with process, such as instruction manuals and sewing patterns. Alongside an installation of the ephemera and its translation into alternative outcomes, a group reading session takes place, for those interested to participate.

The work initiates development for a new durational performance piece, 'Garment-Making, Performed', where a group of performer-makers will create garments for themselves to wear using the patterns found, and fabrics generated, during the residency period.
