outpost member’s show !¡ selected by the white pube

it is wild to do this, 2 b asked to pick art out of a bunch, ready for selection together. outpost sent us the members’ submissions on hard drives to our respective homes in london and liverpool, and we formed a show outta that.

—> Satellite curation 🌕 💫 🌙

Am sad we can’t be there (an honest schedule clash) but happy to have had a hand in harvesting the art i wanted to put together on a plate. Going through the files became like first dates hotel production, just curation instead; us hoping to make a good match but also not really knowing if it will work out, quickly sending u abroad together, and then showing your 1st meeting to the whole world via channel 4. what I want to happen is for u to run to the toilet to call your friend so you can tell them how well its going, to kiss outside on the couches, and then hug Fred on your way out after you’ve split the bill and agreed to a second date. HOPEFULLY, fingers crossed. we’ll see.

the artwork we have put together, well, I think it is like: Have you seen the episode of Chef’s Table with Jeong Kwan? She is a korean buddhist nun who cooks vegan stuff and also nips down to a uni every now and then to teach students about balancing flavour, all thru using natural ingredients and old careful methods. I think Jeong Kwan was in my heart the day I made my selection for the outpost show. i musta been leaning towards something organic / muddy / herby / and palm 2 palm in the videos, paintings, sculptures, drawings, sound + text. truly, obviously, I made the show I’d want to visit. I ordered a sharp tone of Outside, Air, of lakes; twigs wet and crushed into the ground by human shoes, cold air rushing into ur lungs (i hope i hope). we are lying together on a forest floor, and the raindrops are being caught by the canopy so they sound louder, heavier, accumulated when they finally make it to us. telling stories to the sky ; trying not to laugh or cry. ~ ~ ~

And I went to help install the show the weekend before it opened. Like flatpack furniture, it was a crispy kind of tenderness to arrange pre-selected Things in a room so they felt settled. A Ready Steady Cook kinda format, I was given my ingredients n off I went. It was a slow-cooked logic, a simmering burn, to add garlic and salt n try and make things melt and sing. Happily plating up. // . i think this exhibition will be mindful. I think you should put your phone on airplane mode to view it. I recently spent a week in Glasgow (catsitting) and on the way up there I left my bastard phone on the platform where i’d changed trains. but it was like, the best thing that had ever happened to me. So much of my work as a critic and curator happens through my phone, n suddenly no one could get me. i was free, watching the telly uninterrupted, just plain sitting down content tapping the heads of two nice cats without wanting anything more from the minute I was in. my anxiety was on hold and it was great, my anxiety was in the lost and found at Wigan North Western n I couldn’t care less. On the day I had to come home, my stomach was bad in the morning noon n night, and I was irritable + tense. i keep dreaming back to glasgow times and presence, i keep letting my phone run out so I can be calm. I think this outpost exhibition is literally manifesting what i miss. I cannot believe I won’t get to visit, how sad. but i’m glad it will exist for some people, and maybe it will be exactly what they need. Gab says send us pics of the show // Zarina says don’t send us pics of this show;; but how nice! personal touch, for it to exist aside and separate from that snug loop. Cool and calm and wet, like the pavement after rain.
